On Friday, March 6th, Minnesota confirmed it's first covid-19 case. On Friday the 13th, we were up to 14 and I decided I was working from home. On Tuesday, my company officially input a WFH plan and by Wednesday (3/18) we were up to 77 cases. I think we're nearly at 300 now.
Many have commented how they aren't "worried" about getting sick. I am absolutely worried about getting sick. I understand statistics, I also see 30, 40, 50 somethings becoming critical or dying. I am risk averse, I don't want to chance getting sick because its likely I'll overcome it. I'd rather not find out! So I've been at home.
Last weekend I got some groceries from Trader Joes (which they were only letting a couple people in the store at a time!) and went by my machine knitting instructor's house to pick up yarn (that she'd left in a bag on the portico!).
Otherwise, I've been working -- My job is largely reactive so I've had a few days that were pretty quiet -- and snacking (haha!) and sewing!!!
I traced a size 44, removed 3/4" from the CF rise and added 1" to crotch extension in back. I ended up sewing the side seams at 3/4" vs. 5/8".
I don't normally add hem allowance to Burda except for pants. I'd added 1 1/4" to the pattern and ended up removing 2" and sewed a 1 1/4" hem. Love the finished length.
Not much detail to show on these - invisible side zipper, deep yoke that was understitched and ditch stitched.
I used a size medium, standard for me, added 1" total to the back hip via a slash and spread, and did a 1.5" bicep adjustment. The finished sleeve was only 13"! Geez! The neck binding went in well (often Big4 drafts them too long).

Next up was a cardigan that is in timeout. I hope to finish it -- the band has to be topstitched down and is fine on the straight sections on lower front but I cannot get the angled areas stitched nicely on this ribbed super-stretchy knit. This fabric laughs at the walking foot.

Then Simplicity 2255 was up next with this 1 1/4 yd cut of swiss dot cotton I scored for $4 from SR Harris. I've made this pattern a few times before. The first time I made it I could NOT understand the mandarin collar and just did bias binding on the neckline! Ha!!

I sewed a size 14 and undid the (HORRIBLY EXECUTED AND INCORRECT) FBA. I also added to the hip line via slash and spread - 3/8" in front and 3/4" in back (I could use a bit more hip room). I also did a 1/4" forward shoulder adjustment.
I finished it with a narrow hem, bias binding on the armhole and a bunch of topstitching. I wanted some yellow buttons but...sewing from stash! I figured if I really wanted to, I could swap the buttons out later. But I love these buttons (I have a ton of em! LOL!)
I finished up the Burda dress that I'd muslined in my last post and it is AMAZING and I LOVE it! Hope to get pics soon!

I'm like you- I absolutely do not want to risk getting this virus or giving it to someone else, and will stay at home as long as needed! Your new projects are all great, but that yellow swiss dotted sleeveless top is my fave- you look so Springy and fresh in it! Thanks for sharing all of your projects- so much fun to see!

Im high risk so I'm very terrified. My husband has to go work everyday regardless and it makes me mad, sad, and scared. Wisconsin went from 1 case to 650. its nuts. we have community spread in my small county too. I love your makes though. keep on sewing and stay as safe as you can!

We are still advised to stay in our homes. My kids have Spring break next week, and another week of online learning. But yes we are absolutely doing what we can to ride this out each day and stay sane, lol!
I am sure I will eventually get it because I am a nurse and still at work in a hospital that takes care of people who have it. We have the precautions but it is so contagious and I have read that healthworkers in Italy, Iran and China all got it-- I read it was like 70% of the population will have it. I already got the flu this year despite having gotten the shot. But I am very vigilant about handcare. It helps we don't have visitors. Stay safe at home! I love your projects. I think you choose really great colors (love that shade of blue and the yellow is so fresh!). I have been working and also taking a statistics class so have not had much sew time because I am also a news junkie and reading everything. Our community is currently drive through testing and I think we have over 70 confirmed cases but my hospital serves multiple counties so the number is misleading because we have many inpatient waiting for results. We are only 5 hours north of NYC.
Hello fellow Minnesotan! Ginny’s Fine Fabrics is my heaven, SR Harris is a fun place to explore but the fabric store that I frequent most often is Treadle Yard Goods. I’m going to miss my fabric store shopping. I keep telling myself I should just sew from my stash so here’s my chance. Today, I’m going to start sewing masks. I may have a bit of cotton in my stash, if I can remember where I’ve “stashed” all of it! Stay safe and well. I’m so grateful I have a hobby that I love and keeps me busy (I’m retired) in these stressful times.

Yes, Yes, and more yes! I feel like I'm the spider sitting here waiting for the fly (all those who don't believe) to fall further into the corona web, struggle and die or struggle and fall through on the other side changed. It's coming people...even to the small towns that just have farms...because the virus doesn't care. It's coming!

I am also a member of the risk averse club. Even if I wasn't, my daughters have us under house arrest and checking on us constantly which we consider a blessing. I feel I am living with high anxiety so much of the day. Podcasts, sewing, music and walks with my husband out in nature where we know there are no others keep us going......Love your new outfits, particularly those pants. I just can't figure out on what planet you are considered a plus size.
Well North Carolina has been slow to get the virus here, but in the past few days it is starting to hit hard. The Governor has now mandated a stay at home and has required all non-essential stores to close by 5PM on March 30. Banks, grocery stores, pharmacies and a few others are still open. My DH and I both have issues with bronchitis and a common cold creates much havoc for us so the COVID 19 virus is very concerning for us.
We had a pneumonia shot a couple of years ago but we decided to get another one before there was any known case of the virus in NC. We are staying in place as much as possible. We have stocked up on some items and I will make a run to the store for a few items we are running low on.
Having said all of that--I like the twist top and have that on my list to sew soon. I love the yellow top, great color on you. Several reviewers have talked about the issue with the twist area, I have a plan when I get to that point.

When I first started sewing a plus-sized friend was interested and I had to tell her, look, there aren't going to be a lot of options because I am plus/on the verge of plus! Luckily, sizing has expanded, but I can't imagine the struggles of finding good patterns that actually fit you when you're outside of the range :(

Love love love your blue top, looks great on you. I made that same pattern in a textured knit, it was a poor fabric choice. The knot area was very bulky and made me look like I'd gained 10 lbs, who needs that?
For topstitching your cardigan, maybe try using an embroidery stabilizer? Just today I tried something called Totally Stable (made by Sulky) which you iron to the back side of your work, topstitch, then peel it off. I was doing some stitching across the pockets for some stretch jeans. My fabric is a very stretchy bengaline and it kept the pockets from getting stretched out by the stitching.
