Friday Miscellany and Vogue 1392

I am on a spending ban for the month of June. I went to HomeGoods though (bad idea). I wanted this cute little tray for all of my post earrings and fashion rings!!! But I just admired it and didn't buy it.

I did buy these earrings today for $2.25 :)
(wearing one of my many versions of B5760)

Hey; these were purchased in May! :-p

The grey print is a cotton pique knit. I *swear* it said 4-way stretch. But this fabric is 100% cotton (no Lycra-wah) and only stretches crosswise. Plus, the pique is too heavy for a summer top. Into the stash it goes. The 'eggshell' Nettie will happen!

I got new black sandals (also in May!! lol!)

Soooo V1392...

You have to understand that by the time I decide to blog that something isn't working, it's not on a whim. I don't think the dress is terrible or awful. It looks fine on me. But I'm just not feeling it. Not even that "it's okay but doesn't make me super excited!", it feels bland and blah. I don't know if it feels too fall-like? And not necessary because of the color choices, I think it just doesn't make me think "summer" and clearly, with my current pattern picks, I am full steam ahead into sewing for summer!

On Monday I got it assembled to try on and as mentioned on Wednesday, felt meh about it. Since Monday, I haven't gone back in the sewing room.

Not that I haven't worked on it, or haven't sewn...I walk past and see it on the dressform and keep walking! I haven't been *IN* the room!

I'm not wadding it; I'll put it in the basket to revisit later.

I sewed a size 16 with 14 neckline. I removed a 3/8" wedge from the upper back. I initially added 1.5" to the hemline and went back and removed 1 3/4". I did a 5/8" swayback adjustment.

I removed some of the hip curvature:

I intended to do an all-in-one facing but missed tracing off the lower part of the armhole! hahaha! I was just going to make armhole facings and maybe I will when the time comes.

I kicked BUTT on matching the seam.

As you can see, it resulted in my upper edge being slightly off. I went back and trimmed it to match. I insert the first side, mark the seam on the other side of the zipper and then I sew about 1" or so on either side of the marking and check to see if it matches. I got it right the first time here! yay! But if it doesn't match, you're ripping out a very small section vs the entire side of a zipper.

Wilson the cat is inspecting the photo area

The facing is just sewn on; not under stitched or pressed, that's why the neckline is lumpy

Cute but gives me a serious case of the blahhhhhhhhs

Nice fit through the back waist. I don't know about the upper back and how it's supposed to fit because Vogue has that ridiculous and useless cover photo!

So, not a fail but not "it". And I've moved on! I'm not revisiting this anytime soon! lol!!! Maybe this fall...

I've cut out and sewn both versions of the M6519 top. Still need to make some bias tape and finish 'em up. I have a super busy Saturday planned but should get some time on Sunday to sew.

If you were wearing your beautiful smile and some spectator pumps 👠 I think it would be a knock out! I do know the feeling of it just not making YOU have the "feeling". Enjoy your weekend. I FINALLY am going to have sewing time and it's for God, not me. I procrastinated on a tablecloth and we have Communion Service on Sunday, so I am forced to finish it tomorrow, which means the embroidery and hem stitching.

I too understand just not feeling it. I hope it entices you to pull it back this fall though, because I love the colorblock and think it looks great on you.

I can see this as a fall dress. Maybe the color choices are just lacking that Spring-y fun we all crave this time of year! I think it looks great though, so I hope you do come back to it!

A trip to the magic closet is a good thing. I think it's cute, but I agree that the sewjo is too fragile to waste on meh-garments. =)

Cute style, and totally classic!

I love the dress! Shoes and jewelry might help you to change your mind. Don't give up on it just yet.

Looks very stylish, just needs some statement jewelry. Def is not a summer frock, though.

Oh that dress is beautiful on you so I hope you do not give up on it! It looks like a serious down to business type of dress but it is still fabulous on you.

Those black sandals!!! Love them! It stinks that the Vogue dress is not what you wanted cause I think you look great in it!

I have to agree with everyone here, the Vogue dress is very chic and you look fabulous in it but I understand not feeling it. If I had the body to pull off a dress like that I would say send it my way! I hope you feel differently later on because you nailed the fit and you look great.

Very formal. Summer is generally more casual. You are gorgeous in this knock out dress.

Yep, give it time. I love this dress on you. Maybe a great jacket with it in the fall? If you need my address, let me know.

Thanks Barbara! Things have been known to make it out of "the box" so we'll see!

It totally feels autumn-y, right?! I need lightness and brightness and ...not this right now.

Your fitting is perfection! Can't go wrong with a color blocked sheath dress. Is it the most exciting thing in your wardrobe? Probably not, but you'll be glad it's there when you need it! Great job~

I bought that same cotton pique knit fabric! I swore it said 4way stretch too!! I was so disappointed. I got the green colorway too. I happen to really like your dress. :)

I hope "the magic closet" helps you like the Vogue dress a tad bit more, as I think it is such a nice dress.

I know this is an old post; I have a dreadful habit of reading blogs finish to start. Love the dress, shame it didn't work for you. It is a bit dressy (JOKING) i love how well you matched those seams!

As for the jewellery stand...all it looks like is some painted plates on a cake stand. Surely someone as crafty as you can salvage and paint something workable. Hell you probably already have!
