Butterick 6378 (and Burda 7/2017)

Really quick...this is the second version of Burda 7/2017 pants that I made at Sew Camp.  When I finished them they were extra snug. But we'd had pizza for dinner and I have a small appetite until we're talking pizza. Mmmmmmm! :)

No sizing changes from the original pair (made in Ankara print). Cosmetically, I left off the piping I included in the first pair. I really like this pattern!

I have been having a hankering for pussybow blouses (sorry Carolyn! :-p) for a good long while. I have a ton of patterns in stash between paper and Burda and this one was in mind for awhile because of the simple lines.
When I scored this --uber cheap!! but nice feeling-- polyester peach skin from FabricMart during Sew Camp, I knew it would become a pussybow blouse. And I knew it would be used for this pattern because I'd want to limit the amount of fiddly bits with a shifty poly fabric.

I used my normal size 14 with the following adjustments:
1" FBA and left the dart (I intended on rotating it into the gathers at the shoulder and forgot)
3/4" full bicep adjustment
Shortened 1 1/4" at the hem and sewed a narrow hem. The pattern hem is 3/4".

The pattern has elastic in the sleeve hems. I have them sewn for elastic but hadn't added it yet when I realized "it's almost 2:00 and it's about to start snowing, I'd better get pics while I can!". So the sleeves WILL be as per the pattern. :)

Do you love my new bow flats?! I do!!! :)

Pics with the skirt show the ties in a bow; with pants shows them tied in a loose knot and left to hang free. Skirt is my TNT B5760, pants are RTW (I fit *perfectly* into the LOFTs Julie Fit size 12)
 I just love the fit!!
Now, one mistake I make often, unfortunately, is using the size 14 and taking the time to make adjustments...but forgetting that my hips are an 18.

The FBA gives me the bust and waist room that I need but I need more room through the hip. It gets hung up, as you can see here. I have already altered the pattern because I WILL be making this one again!

When I first put it on I have to arrange the facing. But once it's on, it stays put.

The ties are integrated into the collar. I slip stitched the collar to the top by hand.

The gathers are nice and soft. Not too full and I wouldn't mind rotating my new dart into them.
Once I realized I'd cut the pattern piece before rotating it, I figured the print would hide the dart just fine, which it does.

I love the print, I love how the color can read as taupe or blush and it looks good with some other non-black bottoms.

(this fabric is currently on sale for $3/yd! NAYY)

One thing that I don't like as much is how the collar sits on the neck. I've been folding it down but then once the tie is tied it wants to unfold at the back of the neck. Perhaps I can try folding it inward we'll see. I do want to make view A with long sleeves (pink on the pattern) and view C (yellow) without the elastic in the hem.

I got a lot of work done on my Burda 7136 shirt despite a VERY busy weekend! I need to do some topstitching, hem it and the sleeves. Which aren't even cut out :) I tend to cut pattern pieces as I need them with shirts (unless I'm worried about coming up short on fabric).

Until later!

What a fantastic pattern! You’ve done a beautiful job on yours, and that fabric is great. I wouldn’t mind making a version of view D. Maybe in a casual double gauze for summer.

I really like the BOW TIE BLOUSE out of that pretty Fabric Mart fabric. Though you are speeding through the Fabric Mart fabric and haven't even touched the Metro fabric. OR am I going to be recognizing fabric from now to September? 😘

I don't like to call it P-Bow either--however, the bow tie blouse is lovely. I like peach skin --it can be fussy -- but a great looking blouse is worth it.

that blouse looks great. I forgot that same adjustment (room at the hip) recently on a blouse, I added triangle wedges and called it a design element :) LOVE the bow flats.

The pants look wonderful in the lighter color. I think I like that pattern too!

I LOVE the blouse you made with the tie front!!! The fabric is heavenly for the style and you look amazing in it! And yes to shoes with bows! When I went shoe-shopping recently I saw them everywhere, lol!

Thank you Vanessa! OMG I didn't know I needed bow shoes until I saw these! LOL!!!!!

Ah adding a triangle wedge is a great solution!

Thanks Beth!

Thank you Robin! I've gotten used to calling them tie-neck or bow blouses but at Sew Camp Carolyn had such a reaction that now I must tease her! :-p

Thank you Linda!!

lololol! I told Quana I was going to mess with you! ha!

I made a big-ish list and am just working through that. A few of the fabrics from Metro are midway on the list!

Thank you! I think you should. It's a well done pattern.

Both of these are great pieces! LOL about the snow and your photos- this weather is driving me crazy! I'll have to check out that blouse fabric- I've bought some other peachskin from them that I really love.

Hi, I'm so glad I found your "new" blog (thanks to Carolyn's post on the Sew Camp) as I was really disappointed when you appeared to fall off the edge of the world. Over the past week I have caught up right from the beginning of this one and I was wondering if you would consider adjusting your settings so that your posts will come through fully in Feedly? Some blogs, like yours, don't adjusted nicely to smaller screen sizes (not even my laptop) and Feedly makes it so much easier to read blogs on the go. I look forward to seeing more from you. ~Kate~

Hi Kate and welcome back! I’m glad you found me too!

The reason I don’t have it come through as full posts is that there are sites that act like aggregators. They “take” content and repost it. And they’re using it to generate as revenue on their site. I mean, so is Bloglovin and Feedly but these other sites look like regular blogs.

Asking them to remove my content did not work. The only option was to not allow the full post to come through so they can’t swipe it. :/

Hi, thanks for your swift reply. I understand your point of view. Is there anything you can do to make your page size with the screen? At the moment it doesn't and I have half of it hanging off the side of the screen and have a scroll bar along the bottom? I don't know if anyone else has this or if it is something my end?

KS_Sews (Dressmakingbacles) said...

I've never seen that as an issue. What device and browser are you using?

Kate said...

I'm using Chrome on an HP laptop. I don't have the same problem if I view on my desktop which has a bigger screen. Not all blogs do this - most adjust to fit the screen width - which is why I wondered if it was a setting in the blog at your end.

KS_Sews (Dressmakingbacles) said...

No, I don't have anything set to *prevent* optimization. It shows fine on my Dell, MacBook, iPad and iPhone on Safari and Chrome. I'm not sure what might be going on :(

Kate said...

Thanks for checking it out anyway.
